Update on Electrical Panels

Baby steps!  The volunteer Electrical Engineer had a meeting with two employees from Boulder City on Wednesday of last week (9/1/10).  They actually met at the dog park site for about an hour, we’re told.

There is a transformer conveniently adjacent to the dog park site and that is where the city proposed we hook up our electrical to run the automatic sprinkler systems.

With these suggestions having been proposed BY the city and the decision to handle the electrical this way, we’re now just waiting again for the Engineer to draw up the physical plans on paper for submission.  One would hope that since the city is the one who made the suggestion – the plans will go through the approval process on their end smoothly.  More updates as they come down the pipeline!

Still Awaiting Electrical Panel Designs

Sigh…just wanted to pass along that we’re still waiting for our volunteer electrical engineer to draft up the design of the electrical panel so we can submit it for what we hope will be the last round of approvals and hopefully a permit to begin construction.  This electric panel is what will control the automatic sprinkler of our irrigation system.

As our dog park is being built on a shoestring budget for this level of project, we are totally reliant on volunteers donating their time and skills for the many phases of this project…and so we are at the mercy of their schedules and availability.

We anxiously await some progress on the electrical panel design every day and will pass along the great news when it has been completed and submitted to the city…thanks for your patience!

Reminder: No 2nd Saturday Meeting – August 2010

Just a reminder that we are on Summer Break and there will be no Second Saturday meetings for the months of June, July or August! Have a great one and we’ll see you on the second Saturday in September!

Email Updates Now Available!

Digital Marketing Rule #1:  Communicate with your audience using their preferred method…not just yours!

Yes…we blog, we’re on Facebook and we even Tweet — but we’re sensitive to how many people in Boulder City aren’t into social networking…which is why we’ve just added the ability to sign up for email updates on our website.

From the left hand sidebar, just enter your email address in the Email Signup box and hit the Subscribe button.  Then watch your email in-box for a verification email from Google’s Feedburner (the service we use) and click on the confirmation link.

From that point on, whenever we post something to our blog, you’ll receive an email with a summary of that post.  Simply click on the title of the blog post that is in your email and you’ll be taken right to the full post on our blog.

We really want to start getting the word out on where we are with the dog park construction – so please share this new feature with anyone and everyone you think would like to receive emailed updates!  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact our webmaster by clicking here.

Picnic Table Refurbishment Project

Today, we went to visit the good folks at the US Park Service who are graciously donating their old picnic tables to See Spot Run and the Boulder City Dog Park!

There are nine very sturdy tables and it’s a terrific donation that will save us a great deal of money…but they’ve been outdoors for such a long time, they’re in dire need of refurbishment…and that’s saying it mildly!

The picnic table refurbishment project is going to be the Eagle Scout Project of a Boulder City youth named Marcus Walker…so we met Marcus down at the Lake Mead Recreational Area Maintenance Yard to have a look at the task ahead of him.

The tables have very sturdy metal frames and rock solid tops and benches…with just two of them having benches with significant damage.  Our theory is that we can combine the best parts of these two tables to make one good one, bringing our total number to eight complete tables for the dog park.

Both the tabletops and the benches are an “open weave” style with a “rubber/plastic” type of coating this is weathered, cracked and peeling — so once his Eagle Scout project is approved by Boy Scouts of America, Marcus’ first task will be to research our options for how to best bring these tables back to life.

If you know anything about this type of coating and can offer some guidance…we’re always open to receiving expert advice…just contact See Spot Run’s Park Bench Restoration Project’s coordinator, Kathy Hicks at 702-635-8470!
