Picnic Table Refurbishment Project

Today, we went to visit the good folks at the US Park Service who are graciously donating their old picnic tables to See Spot Run and the Boulder City Dog Park!

There are nine very sturdy tables and it’s a terrific donation that will save us a great deal of money…but they’ve been outdoors for such a long time, they’re in dire need of refurbishment…and that’s saying it mildly!

The picnic table refurbishment project is going to be the Eagle Scout Project of a Boulder City youth named Marcus Walker…so we met Marcus down at the Lake Mead Recreational Area Maintenance Yard to have a look at the task ahead of him.

The tables have very sturdy metal frames and rock solid tops and benches…with just two of them having benches with significant damage.  Our theory is that we can combine the best parts of these two tables to make one good one, bringing our total number to eight complete tables for the dog park.

Both the tabletops and the benches are an “open weave” style with a “rubber/plastic” type of coating this is weathered, cracked and peeling — so once his Eagle Scout project is approved by Boy Scouts of America, Marcus’ first task will be to research our options for how to best bring these tables back to life.

If you know anything about this type of coating and can offer some guidance…we’re always open to receiving expert advice…just contact See Spot Run’s Park Bench Restoration Project’s coordinator, Kathy Hicks at 702-635-8470!
